I've just returned home from a luxuriously long vacation. Some spring color inspiration to share! I found this box of cake candles at an estate sale this past weekend. I always seem to find delight in the smaller details. Aren't the colors divine? The box is dated 1956 and only 1 candle has been lit. I paid the vintage price of 10 cents. Simply lovely.

Dyeing Easter eggs is usually a bit messy. Easter project #1 was no exception. However, I came up with a few ways to make the process more enjoyable.#1: Using cupcake 'tins' for each child's dye. This evening I attended my aunt's birthday party. My mother and I used the movie Chocolat as our inspiration. Art Nest was there too...see the tea towels laid across the french bread baskets (which we used to serve the meal in)...I made one for each of the guests as a party favor. They also doubled as place cards. The tea towels are hand stamped with my bird and the individual guests name.

It has been awhile since I've posted my art work. I've been working on my technique and experimenting with different paints and mediums. Weekend sewing...so lovely! With nice weather, a clean studio, and the children spending last night at my in-laws, I feel relaxed and accomplished. I have discovered that I am truly in love with rescuing children's books. The criteria for selecting each book depends of my mood, but usually I look for classic books that have beautiful, charming illustrations. We all bundled up this morning after a breakfast of bagels and coffee and took a kite down to the marina. Of course it was sunny, cold, and windy. The picnic tables were a beautiful blue. I enjoy making this homemade play dough. I think my favorite part is creating the colors! The texture is wonderful. You can make several batches in different colors and package them up in cute containers to have quick gifts for playmates. This is also a great opportunity to introduce measuring and the color wheel to your kids - they can help add the food coloring to discover how colors mix!
